Musembi, Thomas, Yasu, Juliane, Taka and Ken attended WCPP12 at Sheffield University, UK. Juliane got the best student presentation award! She was the rising star!
Mixed Lab Summer Camp!
Runners in the East Building 6F (Shirasu, Sugimoto, Tran, Nakagami labs) got together participating in the Tsumagoi Cabbage Marathon, the toughest course in Japan. Thomas, Pam, Luke, Christian, as well as Fujimoto-sensei (Tokyo Univ) finished the half marathon (21K). Others run for 2, 5, 10 km. All got a cabbage as a goal award! The BBQ was also excellent! Thanks to the Thai Chef!

Anuphon Laohavisit joined our lab as a RIKEN FOREIGN POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW. Originally from Thai, he got his education in England. He obtained Ph.D in plant science at University of Cambridge. He will work on signal transduction in plant immunity. Now the ratio of foreign versus Japanese researchers in our lab is 5:4!

Thomas, from Germany, got his Ph.D at the laboratory of Dr. Silke Robatzek in The Sainsbury Laboratory in UK. He successfully obtained Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowshipto come to Japan. Here he started working on Striga .

Assoc. Prof. Derek Goto (Hokkaido University) visited RIKEN PSC and gave a fantastic on nematode infections.
Nematode uses the symbiotic signaling pathway to infect host roots. Amazing data.
Assoc. Prof. Jian Hua (Cornell University) visited RIKEN PSC and gave a great seminar on R protein regulations.
When shifted to 28C, R proteins SNC1 and RPS4 cannot go into nucleus, thus not properly activate immunity. ABA somehow regulates this process. Very interesting...
